When I moved to the US among the biggest adjustments was that I pretty much gave up viewing TV or listening to the radio, it is not simply because of a lack of choice rather an absence of top quality shows. While in the United States you may get the odd hit show that everyone desires to watch your average day to day programming is cheap and poor quality. Even turning on the news is really a non-event, because you simply wind up watching US propaganda (although this varies a bit depending on the loyalties of the Television network to the political system!).
A few weeks back I visited the United Kingdom to meet my relatives, and was surprised to discover the quality of programming accessible on British Television. In specific the BBC seemed to be offering excellent shows almost around the clock. When I got back to America I tried watching some of these shows on-line utilizing the BBC iPlayer abroad, which is amazingly great in the UK as well as a bit like Hulu here inside the US I have because been told. I was of however greeted having a ‘Not Accessible inside your area’ warning, it would appear that the BBC did not want me to watch their shows here!
I attempted a few other UK channels, ITV, Channel4 and Five and I was met with similar responses from all of them! Damn I thought. However I did a fast Google and as always it provided a answer. A organization providing some computer software that tricked the system in to letting you watch UK Tv abroad! I took the trial, simply because I was just a little sceptical in spite of the reality they’ve videos showing it working in Australia, and waited for my software to arrive. It took about 10 minutes for the logon to come and I was up and running in about 2 minutes right after that.
Bam! BBC iPlayer abroad fully working! I could not believe how great it was. I employed the software for an additional 10 days after which ordered the 1 year subscription which costs about $10 a month.
It’s not much use to me but the service also gives access to Canadian, US, Irish, German, French and many other European Tv networks besides BBC iPlayer. Oh and Australian Television!!! That’s worth a laugh, it is awful!!!
So in case you are stuck watching US Television and need to see some thing just a little various get some British Tv and watch BBC iPlayer abroad nowadays, I’m fairly sure you are not going to regret it!
